As you may know, Instagram is the king social media platform in many sports and also in women’s football.

Among the top 368 European players, 317 of them use Instagram, 209 use Twitter and use 143 Facebook. In terms of women’s football followers, 5M are on Instagram, 2.8M on Facebook and 2.3M on Twitter.

But, what’s the goal of being on Instagram?

How do you measure its success?

What are likes, comments or reach for?

As any other digital platform, like the website, the goal should be getting permission to start a relationship with a fan. Create a bond means taking care of what they need and giving the value they want to get.

Here you have 10 tips to leverage your Instagram account:

  1. Obsess with the bio link. It’s the way from Instagram to a user email or a permission asset to start a conversation. Landing pages with free value are very useful to get that permission.
  2. Post epic content everyday. If you don’t have or have a limited budget to spend on ads, post high quality content regularly.
  3. Give before asking. If you will run a contest or giveaway, give followers something before asking for a like.
  4. Comment, share and interact with like-minded profiles. For instance, clubs, players, leagues or tournaments.
  5. Look for your brand ambassadors. Multiply your reach by promoting your content through powerful users.
  6. Promote your website through your stories. You want them to escape Instagram to get into your website. It has to be optimised to give value and getting permission.
  7. Use trending hashtags. When you look for a hashtag on Instagram, the platform tells you how many posts have been published with that hashtag. Find the best and most related ones.
  8. Quality before quantity. The ideal is posting the highest quality everyday. It’s not always easy, so prioritise quality over quantity.
  9. Use Instagram Live whenever you can, very attractive to drive awareness and profile visits.
  10. Short and subtitled videos. More than 70% of videos are watched on mute, include subtitles so people can understand them and don’t make them too long, no more than 30” ideally.

If most followers are on Instagram, let’s convert them into our fans.
